Equine Health and Welfare
The Animals at Erin Meadows Farm are treated with a great standard of care. We have a full-time staff who are responsible for two feedings per day and constant fresh water supply. Wellness checks are done at feeding time.
Horses are herd animals and prefer to be outdoors (even in inclement weather). All Horses have outdoor sheds (walk-in shelter) which they may choose if they do not want to be outside as well as pasture area for exercise and grazing. Fresh air is not only preferred by them but is best for their health. Horses grow a thick winter coat of 2 layers which make blankets uncomfortable for them and do not require blankets. Blankets are also a risk of getting tangled and can harm the horses. We have a considerable number of horses and ponies as determined by size.
Our animals are evaluated on a routine basis by professional veterinarians and have farrier care to their hooves as needed by both general and specialist care providers. Dental care is provided by a specialist as well.
We grow our own hay and can, therefore, control the moisture and protein content. Some horses also receive grain and additional supplements.
We are an environmental farm and therefore limit any use of chemicals and detrimental fertilizers.
